This listing includes a traditional Chinese mallet.
Note: Due to the manufacturing process, some Sabian Gongs have a slight discoloration in their lathing. This does not affect the sound of the gong, but gives the gong a unique look. This gong is being offered at a special price for minor cosmetic reasons. Close-ups and details are at the end of the video below.
Sabian 28" Symphonic Gong (#GSV897)
Sabian Gongs are made in the Sabian Cymbal Factory in Canada using a different method from how Chinese gongs are made. The heating and lathing of the metal is more subtle. Some Sabian Symphonic Gongs will have heating marks on the darker outer ring or center bullseye of the gong. These are NOT imperfections, but rather show the gong makers work and the handmade nature of these gongs.
The 28" Sabian Symphonic Gong is a great sounding gong. It has an immediate response and after the first note it has extended harmonic overtones. Although it has those overtones every time the gong is struck it creates an even response.
When you strike this gong, it gives you a powerful fundamental note. But it doesn't stop there. Nope, this gong is a giver. After the fundamental note, it brings out the harmonic overtones for you. The Sabian Symphonic Gong literally creates a full, warm, and round response every time you hit it. (Do you know any people that do that?)
