This listing includes a traditional Chinese mallet.
Please note: Sabian Gongs are made in the Sabian Cymbal Factory in Canada using a different method from how Chinese gongs are made. The heating and lathing of the metal is more subtle. Some Sabian Symphonic Gongs will have heating marks on the darker outer ring or center bullseye of the gong. These are NOT imperfections, but rather show the gong makers work and the handmade nature of these gongs.
Did you know that the word symphony is derived from the Greek syn (together) and phone (sounding) producing the concept of "sounding together." Ah, those Greeks, they were important to the world once. With their philosophers, olympians, and homosexuality, etc. Now, they just produce facile romantic comedy movies about getting married.
When you strike this gong, it gives you a powerful fundamental note. But it doesn't stop there. Nope, this gong is a giver. After the fundamental note, it brings out the harmonic overtones for you. The Sabian Symphonic Gong literally creates a full, warm, and round response every time you hit it. (Do you know any people that do that?)
really like the sound of the Sabian symphonic 28 gong. It produces powerful and sturdy fundamental notes that are enhanced and softened by harmonic overtones, creating a full, warm and round response12. It is very tonal and has many sound variations when you use it with rubber mallets. You can get a punchy and penetrating sound that is mainly a raw and explosive response of white noise2, or a more subtle and gentle sound that is soothing and relaxing. The only thing that I would improve is the rope. It is not very durable and it tends to fray easily. I would recommend replacing it with a stronger and thicker rope that can withstand the tension and the weight of the gong. Also, if you don’t like the dark and stained metal, this gong might not be for you, because that is the natural finish1. It gives the gong a rustic and antique look, but some people might prefer a more polished and shiny appearance. Overall, I think the Sabian symphonic 28 gong is a great instrument for anyone who loves gongs and wants to explore their musical possibilities. It is versatile, expressive and has a rich and deep sound that can fill any space. It is definitely worth the price and the quality is excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a symphonic gong.
