The 17" Silat Gong is a great steel gong regularly played for Silat training or performance. Silat is an indigenous martial art from Indonesia. The performances are done to the rhythm of an ensemble that includes the Silat Gong.
It is said that Silat originated from a woman named Rama Sukana who witnessed a fight between a tiger and a hawk. Mimicking the animals movements, she was able to fend off a group of drunken men who attacked her. She then taught her husband and the techniques were passed down to other villagers and their children and their children's children.
