The 22" Kempul Gong is a gorgeous bronze gong. It is most often played in Gamelan orchestras in the Indonesian/Malay archipelago. The name Kempul is very much an onomatopoeia, as are many of the gongs' names from this region. Kempul gongs are middle ranged notes and are used as rhythm counters to nest smaller gongs' rhythms inside theirs. Instead of ringing loudly, Kempul gongs are muted with the hand or mallet.
